Cursor Images

Use a cool image for your cursor on your webpage. You can use either an animated cursor or a static one - but you need to make sure you use a file with a .ani or .cur extension. A search for free cursors will give you a list of sites where you can download free cursors to use. Download the ones you want and upload them to your webspace. Remember - DON'T link to the image on THEIR server, this is stealing bandwidth!!

Animated Cursors
* if you can't see an animated cursor in either of the boxes below, then your browser doesn't support animated cursors
Here we have a table data cell. You will notice that the cursor is an image while over this area. The cursor style goes into the <td> tag in this case. Hover over this link and you will notice a different cursor again. You can set the cursor to be an image for the whole page, or just sections of it.
Static Cursors
* if you can't see a cursor image in either of the boxes below, then your browser doesn't support image cursors
Here we have a table data cell. You will notice that the cursor is an image while over this area. The cursor style goes into the <td> tag in this case. Hover over this link and you will notice a different cursor again. You can set the cursor to be an image for the whole page, or just sections of it.

  • use only .cur or .ani files for your cursor. Animated cursors use the .ani extension, static cursors use the .cur extension
  • find the cursor image you wish to use for your cursor. Upload it to your website and make note of the url - this is what you use as the url to the cursor
  • if you find that .ani files will not work on your website, you need to add code to your .htaccess file to display them (code provided on next page if you are using .ani)
  • select what tag you wish to use the cursor for, enter the url to your image file, then click generate
